Job Description

As a Systems Engineer at B3, you will be part of an exceptional team building a new generation of wearable environmental sensors to protect our military and law enforcement. You will work across software and hardware teams to influence our roadmap priorities, drive product feature decisions, and manage the engineering process. You will take the lead on initiatives that are still at the concept stage and establish feasibility, define their risks and constraints, and mature them into projects that can be executed independently or across the engineering org. As an outward facing voice for the engineering team, you will manage key technical relationships with partner teams and stakeholders inside and outside of B3. This is a critical role requiring a proactive systems engineer with a strong sense of ownership and willingness to dive deep to understand and resolve complex technical issues in the exciting and rapidly growing field of wearable sensing.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Review content of RFPs, BAAs, and product concepts for technical feasibility, as well as scope of schedule and cost to develop
  • Distill information from business and customer stakeholder to derive requirements and conceptualize product prototypes
  • Execute trade studies to inform on system requirements, system architecture and product specifications
  • Own the design large system components or entire sensor products consisting of electronics, mechanical components, firmware, and software
  • Create systems engineering models and simulations to anticipate design issues ahead of time and expedite verification of the product.
  • Identify and mitigate major design risks early
  • Perform Design of Experiments & Data analysis techniques
  • Collaborate with internal and external engineers to get input from specialists and drive detailed work.
  • Work within B3’s ISO 9001:2018-compliant New Product Development process, and contribute to the effectiveness of the Quality Management System

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, or a related Field, with depth of knowledge in one or more engineering discipline
  • Strong Leadership & Communications skills with a customer focus
  • Ability to drive sensor systems through the entire Product Development lifecycle from ideation to sustaining.
  • Research competing technical approaches and leverage COTS integration where possible – avoid the urge to reinvent the wheel
  • Experience with system design trades that establish feasibility within highly optimized size, weight, and power budgets
  • Creative problem solving and ability to collaborate with cross-functional, distributed
  • Ability to leverage automation tools including Python or MATAB scripting to expedite engineering processes
  • 10+ years experience in a technical industry
  • Verification as a S Citizen or Permanent Resident

Additional Beneficial Qualifications & Experience

  • Direct experience in vetting new product concepts and decision to pursue opportunities
  • Design for Manufacturing / Tolerance analysis
  • Experience with blast overpressure, acoustic, or impact sensing techniques
  • Experience with Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Sensing
  • Experience defining Electrical, Mechanical, and Software interface requirements
  • Rapid prototyping experience including CAD/3D printing, or creating prototype electrical boards
  • Advanced degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, or a related field
  • Experience working in both Agile and Waterfall management systems to deliver results
